Amanda Stevens is putting together a pretty good track record lately.
She has raced three 70.3’s in the past 6 weeks and has yet to miss the
podium. Sunday she got her first win of the season.
Amanda’s season has started off pretty slow as she has battled to figure
out some still unsolved intestinal issues. Her body has not been able
to process calories properly. A battery of tests still leaves the
mystery unsolved.
“Amanda has been going through phases of extreme stomach pain and we have had to manage her training accordingly”, say coach Lance Watson. “She has had to take many unscheduled breaks and completely re-tool her season. Her recent results are testament to her determination. This weekend was the first race where she actually felt strong to the finish line.”
Amanda, who is recognized as one of the premier swimmers worldwide in Ironman, led out the swim by over 2 minutes, and never looked back. She stayed strong at the front of the race throughout the bike and the run, to take the victory at the historic Buffalo Springs Ironman 70.3.
“It feels good to get a win after such a rough start to the year”, she said. “It feels good to be able to push.”
Amanda has trained with LifeSport for three years and has placed 4th at Ironman 70.3 World Championships, was the US Ironman 70.3 Champion, and raced at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii for the first time last October.
